If you own a dehumidifier purchased between January 2005 and August 2013, it may be subject to a safety recall. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has recalled 5.6 million dehumidifiers manufactured by Gree® and Midea® and sold under many popular retail brands.
Gree-manufactured units have reportedly caught fire, causing a reported $19 million in damage, and Midea-manufactured units have caused a reported $4.8 million in damage.
If you purchased a dehumidifier between January 2005 and August 2013, follow these steps immediately:
1. Locate the model number.
The model number is typically found on the front, side, or back of the unit on a nameplate sticker.
2. Check if your model is affected by visiting each manufacturer’s website or by calling them. It is important to check each website or call each number.

3. If your unit is on any recall list, unplug it immediately.
